Strange Boom Sound

As some of you may know I live in the canyon, just east of Albuquerque.

Just a little while ago, around 5:10 am I heard a loud boom type sound which seemed to vibrate the upper story of my home, but not so much down here where I was.  Right after, I looked out the window and saw a red light high in the sky which was gone when I checked a few seconds (maybe a minute) later.  That could have been a plane, but seemed to be solid red.  Oh, and the chihuahuas next door went totally crazy for several minutes.

Anyhow, if anyone experienced anything similar, please, let me know.  Thanks!

I heard it too, about 5 am this morning (4/28/12.) I also live in the East Mountains. Didn’t see any lights but did hear a dull roar that lasted for maybe a minute and sounded as if a plane was overhead and flying towards Albuquerque. I heard a similar boom the day before (4/27/12) but it was around 7 am.

We are also in the Canyon and heard the huge boom at around 5:00am. We have heard these sounds before as recently as thursday night, twice, once around 3:30 and again somewhere around 4:30 or 5am. Shook the house and rattled the windows. I did not see anything in the sky but afterwards I thought I heard what sounded like a jet flying away. In 36 years of living here, we have never experienced anything like this.

We live near Sedillo, and yes, we have heard the booms. We heard 2 Thurs night, matching the times mentioned by Ronnie. The first felt like something BIG hitting the side of the house. Early this morning, after the boom, we heard what sounded like a noise continuing, maybe a jet, maybe not? Check out the website earthfiles.com for reports of many booms around the US and world.

I work the grave shift at Tramway/Montgomery. I heard the boom thinking it was a semi hitting our building (it was that loud). When I ran outside to check, I heard several smaller booms (6 to 8) much like the echos of thunder. The problem was is that the sounds never faded. They stayed the same volume and then just stopped. I did not see any anomalies. I do not remember if the sky was clear at that time. The parking lot lights made it difficult to see the sky.

  • Thank you all for your replies!

    2/28/2013 5:20AM Montgomery & San Pedro

Heard an extremely loud explosion with a echoing roar.
Rattled our apartment and set off my car alarm.
Ran outside and did not see anything out of the ordinary.

I live in Roswell and I heard the same noise a week or so ago. Sounded like something crashing than hitting the side of the house hard. Made the house shudder. I didn’t look outside the window but now I wish I had.
