On Trickster’s Realm for BoA: Orange Orb Confirmations
(This is my latest Trickster’s Realm column for Tim Binnall’s BoA site.)
An intriguing aspect of alien encounter stories is the shared experience element. There have been many times when I’ve heard a story that, no matter how unusual, how weird, and unbelievable someone’s account may seem, it often turns out that others have had similar, if not the same, kind of experience.
I’ve had UFO experiences going back to childhood, but my sighting of an orange orb in Oregon in the 1980s is, for some reason yet to be discovered, the catalyst for my journey into the world of esoterica, I couldn’t find any references to similar sightings. No books on UFOs or aviation mentioned basket ball sized, glowing from within, seemingly sentient and telepathic orange orbs. Yet I saw one. Furthermore, I experienced missing time the day/night of the sighting. (Other weird events occurred around this sighting as well.)
I’ve seen several UFOs since that sighting, but never anything like that orange orb. Although something odd did happen last year, as I wrote on UFO Magazine’s site:
An Orange Orb Blip
Something slightly odd and startling happened the other day. It was around 5:30 in the afternoon. I was relaxing on the sofa, not asleep but just in that semi-drowsy, pleasant light trance state. I had a short little dream — a dreamlet, you could call it — but I was awake on some level at the same time.
I “dreamt” I had a strong urge to go outside and look at the sky full of stars. (this is something I do almost every evening) and I walk out onto the path to the sidewalk, and scan the dark sky. I hear a voice inside my head, or more like a telepathic nudge, to turn around and look towards the south. I do, and see, very high up, a bright orange light, which is rotating. As far away as it is, and as small as it is — like a large, bright star — I can tell it’s revolving. When I see this orange “star” I’m very scared, and I can feel my stomach drop with cold dread.
I wake up abruptly, feeling very uneasy. With the sighting of the orange object I again am aware of a telepathic message; this one tells me that I know exactly what it is I saw years ago, and to stop playing games. I assume it meant stop playing games with myself, but I had a sense it might have meant with it as well, whatever “it” is.
I’m not sure why I feel it’s important to keep track of episodes like this, but I’m sure one of the many purposes doing this serves is that is simply makes me feel better. No closer to any mystery but I don’t think that’s the point any more. Acknowledging these weird little moments and adding them to the collection of pieces gives the illusion of work, of study. It’s calming somehow. It’s also empowering; once you call it, reclaim the name of something, it’s power diminishes.
And maybe, as has been said by Forteans and esoteric explorers, the Trickster or whatever you want to call it is alerted to our interest and responds. When we start noticing “it,” “it” starts to notice us back.
Every time I come across an account of an orange UFO I get excited and am curious to discover if the sighting was anything like mine so many years ago.
A few years ago, we began to see reports of orange orb or spheres; they’re still coming in. Most of these seem to be the lanterns used in celebrations that have become popular but as many researches have pointed out, this doesn’t explain much. The orange lantern explanation just doesn’t fit a lot of these sightings.
There have been a lot of reports of orange colored lights in the sky; not the floating type lanterns, not the basket ball sized orb I saw, but star like, or like the lights of a plane.
Interesting and sometimes they share some similarities to what I saw but, not the same thing.
Until the “Dark Presence” episode of UFO Hunters. That episode had to do with orange UFOs. Not small, airplane type lights, stars, or lanterns, but like the orb I saw. Some of the orbs witnesses described were green or other colors, but orange seemed to be the main color. I responded to that episode, again on the UFO Magazine blog:
There are many parallels to my orange orb sighting . . . and the ones discussed in the UFO Hunters episode. Many witnesses reported feelings of dread, of fear, though some had experienced feelings of elation, upon seeing these orbs. I had both: feelings of a happy intrigue when I first saw the orb, and a real goofy, almost psychedelic response right after seeing it. . . I also had the most terrifying dreams of my life right after seeing the orb. These dreams were always the same: I’m paralyzed inside a brilliant white beam of light that is so bright I can almost see through things. There is something huge above me, some kind of object. My husband is nearby but has been taken from me and I’m screaming for him, for “them” to return us to. . . or get us out of, wherever the hell we are.
Finally, I had found others who described the same kind of object and events that I experienced, as I wrote:
These orbs were described by witnesses as being basket ball sized, or even larger, like a beach ball. That’s exactly how I’ve been describing the size of the orb I saw for all these years. Witnesses also said they felt a premonition, or some kind of telepathic communication between the orb and themselves; I also had that experience when I first saw the orb. I had glanced up having noticed the orb, which I estimated to be about a mile away. I had the distinct feeling it was waiting for me, and as soon as I thought “What the hell is that thing?” it zoomed right to me, following us along the road. (Witnesses also reported they were followed by the orbs.) As we turned the corner to go home (our house was right around the corner) the orb stopped for a moment above a house across the road from us, then just sank down, “landing” in the backyard. Similar behavior was reported by witnesses on the UFO Hunters episode.
Witnesses also described the orb as being lit from within, or at least giving that appearance. The orb I saw had the same effect; no lights around it, or on it, but it seemed to glow from inside. Witnesses also reported missing time.
Strange to come across so many witnesses with such similar descriptions and so many years apart!
Comments that followed to my piece on UFO Magazine’s blog were interesting. Like this one from “Susan” who saw a large orange orb in 1975, and Raechel from MRIPA (a paranormal investigative group that was featured in the UFO Hunters episode.) Raechel wrote:
Jason and I did do an investigation with Indiana – MUFON back in July of this year. It was a woman and her family who live up in northern Indiana who witnessed one large red orb (basketball size) and a multitude of smaller white orbs (softball size) in the woods that surrounded her house. She too explained a feeling of “awe” at first and than fear. . . . she stated that the orb actually entered through her front door and left a sticky residue on her door. Her dog no longer likes to go out side at night, and when Jason and I were asking her questions, we both noticed that there was missing information that didn’t fit in sequence. When I say this, I do not mean that she was telling us false information, what she was telling us was the truth. Her story to this day still has not altered any. What I’m saying is the way she was talking and her actions fit into that of people that have experienced “missing time.” She couldn’t recall several hours of the 2 nights that she experienced seeing these orbs.
The part about “missing information that didn’t fit…” parallels my own experience. To this day, my husband and I find we disagree, get confused, argue, and misremember parts of that experience. It’s like we have to retrace the same thing every time, and sometimes, new information seems to reveal itself as we try to work through what happened.
This past year I’ve been trying to recall the missing parts of this experience through dreams, meditation, and intent. I don’t know if I’ll ever use hypnosis as a tool but I doubt it very much.
I still don’t know what that orb was, why it was, or what really happened. It is — I don’t know if comforting is quite the word to use — but it is confirming to know that others have also experienced these orbs.

Heceta Head Lighthouse
Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast, Florence, Oregon
manipulated photograph/mixed media, Regan Lee 2005
This is an image of the Heceta Head lighthouse keeper’s home in Florence, Oregon. The house is now a bed and breakfast. The lighthouse is available to visit; tours are given. It’s a bit of a hike up to the lighthouse but worth it.
The house is said to be haunted. There have been several articles written through the years in both local and national publications on the haunted house. I know a few people who’ve stayed there who’ve told me they either felt or saw ghostly type things.
While I’ve been to the lighthouse, I haven’t been inside the bed and breakfast. Unless you’re staying at the inn, you can’t go inside just to look around. Which is nice to know; you can’t disturb the guests that way. Maybe some day we’ll try staying there.
I manipulated the photograph I took using mixed materials: acrylic paint, oil pastels. It’s been so long since I took this I’m not sure what camera I used; either a disposable or my Instamatic, which I like to use for some silly reason, even though I have digitals and other cameras.

This blue image is of the lighthouse itself. Just a photograph (most likely the same camera was used but as I say, don’t remember) that I had fun playing with by altering the color via the computer.
Never seen a ghost or anything unusual or esoteric when I’ve been up there, but there’s always next time!
Oregon Murres Eaten by Eagles . . . And Pelicans
Recent news making the loop alerts us to the news that bald eagles and pelicans, are eating murres on the Oregon coast. Specifically, the murres at Yaquina Head. This is news, and very weird news, in context of what it means as signals within global changes, as we’ll see.
But the fact that eagles eat murres isn’t all that new, as the Oregon Field Journal notes in a post from June 3rd:
Bald eagles eat murres and they know where to find these seabirds: in their largest colony on rocks right off the Yaquina Head lighthouse in Newport.
We covered this story last year (and the program ran again last week on Oregon Field Guide)
Gulls swoop in and eat the eggs, the eagles eat the murres. Now scientists have noticed an added element: pelicans are also eating murres. Fish and Wildlife Bulletin reports:
Our field crew also recently observed an immature brown pelican land on Flattop Rock and run through the colony flapping its wings,” Suryan said. “As it zigzagged through the colony, it ate 10 common murre chicks and chased away many of the adults, allowing the gulls to come in and go through their egg-stealing routine.
“Who would have thought that a pelican, of all things, would devour 10 young murres in a matter of seconds?”
Terrence McKenna: Understanding the Universe
“Dryad Materializing,” James Rich acrylic on canvas
“You have to take seriously the notion that understanding the universe is your responsibility, because the only understanding of the universe that will be useful to you is your own understanding.” ~ Terrence McKenna
The quote if from Daniel Moler’s (for Reality Sandwich) article Machine Elves 101, or Why Terence McKenna Matters The article is, as Moler writes, a kind of “Terence for Dummies” includes several good quotes from McKenna.
I’ve been asked many times why I explore the things I do; why I blog and write about my UFO, anomalous and paranormal experiences, and generally, pursue the esoteric/Fortean realms. This Terrence McKenna quote resonates with me as explanation.
I would just say that “understanding the universe” is an overwhelmingly and very large assumption, and if misunderstood or misinterpreted, may sound ridiculously arrogant. I don’t believe I or anyone can presume to understand the universe, as in “Oh! I got it all now!” moment. (Even when we think we’ve reached those moments of Satori, they soon fade, like a great and very important dream, and we’re back to the mundane. . .) (And yet, if we’ve had those moments, they become a part of us, no matter how hidden away they may end up . . . ) But as a process, a journey for its sake, makes sense to me.e
1970s: Medford’s Suicide Spike and ULF’s
Many thanks to Iona Miller, Oregon Fortean and conspiracy writer. I lifted this from her website.
MEDFORD ATTACKED BY RUSSIAN ELF
From “The Secret War Against Medford, Oregon”, by Mark Metcalf.
Recently, while reading a back issue of Nexus magazine, I came across a
news clip titled “The Mysterious Taos Hum.” The story said that
Representative Bill Richardson (D-NM) has asked the House Select Committee
to investigate a noise that causes dizziness, shortness of breath,
headaches, anxiety and sleeplessness, and is thought by some to emanate
from a secret defense-related project plaguing various cities in New
Mexico.I realized that I might know something about that sound, something that I
had been playing it safe with for fourteen years.During the years 1980-83, I was living with the daughter of the new-
deceased Dr. David Fraser, former head of the Department of Toxicology at
the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. One Day she told me of a
frightening encounter involving her father and the American military. When
Dr. Fraser came to stay with us while on vacation in 1981, I asked him to
tell me the story.Suicide capital overnight
He said that in the early 1970s, the small city of Medford, Oregon, became
the suicide capital of the United States overnight. (The exact dates can
be found by checking national health statistics.) After Dr. Fraser was
notified of this dramatic anomaly, he organized and sent a team of
researchers to look for the cause. The team checked the water, the air,
the soil and a variety of additional possibilities, but could find no reason
for the massive increase in suicides. Then the researchers discovered that
*ultra low frequencies* (ULF) were being beamed into Medford, Oregon, from
a nearby military base. When they went to the base and met with its
commanding officer, he said that although he knew about ULF, his base was
not responsible, the Russians were! However, the ULF waves stopped the
very next day.The researchers determined that the military base was not the only source;
the ULF was also coming into the homes of the populace through their
television antennas, which created some sort of standing-wave resonance
within the structure of the home itself. People who were often at home in
the houses with TV antennas became severely depressed even if they did not
watch TV.Since the ULF wave had stopped, the researchers returned to the University
to write their report and to confer with Dr. Fraser. Several men
displaying CIA credentials arrived on campus and said that the ULF waves
beamed into Medford were a “national security” matter. They explicitly
threatened to kill each of the researchers, including Dr. David Fraser
himself, should anyone speak further about it. As far as I know, no one
did.It seems clear that the military-industrial complex secretly declared war
on the American people quite some time ago and is waging a long-term
psychological warfare operation, complete with fully operational, mass
mind-control technology. In fact, our whole society seems to be what Walter Bowart* refers to as a
“psycho-civilization” ruled by a “cryptocracy.”How we respond makes a difference
What makes this evil that pervades our nation so effective is the
inappropriateness of our response. We behave much like Dr. B.F. Skinner’s
chicken when placed between two salivating wolves. We just go on pecking.
But who do we call when the bad guys have badges and judges and ray guns–
when blueprints of new federal prisons have cells labeled “labs”?How can we learn to develop responses that are appropriate to the dire
position we have acquiesced to? We must look for new models of behavior to
consider and act upon. We must deeply consider the achievements of the
founding fathers, which in many ways were without precedent. If we do not
find the courage to change our behavior we may soon come to the end of
human history on this planet. As Abraham Lincoln said:
“The money power preys upon the nation in times of peace and
conspires against it in times of adversity. It is more despotic
than monarchy. More insolent than autocracy. More selfish
than bureaucracy. I see in the near future, a crisis approaching
that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my
country. Corporations have been enthroned. An era of
corruption will follow and the money power of the country will
endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of
the people, until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and
the republic is destroyed.”—–

UPDATED Post: Remote Viewer Ed Dames on Missing Kyron Horman
Updated posting here. . .
I’ve been reluctant to share my sense on this, because it involves a child and a family and I don’t want to play the exploitive game here. But for a long time I’ve had the strong impression that there’s a small, wooden shed, off gray in color or light brown, kind of beat up, with brush growing around it. There’s lavendar or small purple flowers close by. This is in a field, or meadow, … not a lot bulidngs nearby, not the city. (I also see a large white house in the background, I don’t know if it’s connected or not.) I can’t get a current sense on if he’s alive now or not, but I do that he was, and in that shed, and that the step-mother was responsible for this. The shed is far from the Portland area; to the east, and north, possibly even in Washington state. I’m writing this because I was startled by the similarities of today’s comment left by “crystal ann” visitor here to LOWFI:
…feel as though I’m riding in a vehicle scared and then we pull up to a field and drive through to a shed. I can see the door. It is made of rough/old/weathered lumber. The field I have had the visual of flowers in an open, out door space (possibly some sort of field?). I am unsure of the type of flower. I keep seeing some sort of shed, barn, or old wooden building. I am unsure if it is just something he is around or in but I keep seeing it after I see the flowers/flower field. I have tried many times to see if I could figure out if Kyron is okay, but I haven’t gotten anything.
Thanks to Deirdre O’Lavery (Interstellar Houswife, Women Of Esoterica, and Queeranormal ) for the link.
I’ve been following this case since the beginning; I always had the feeling a female in the family was responsible for Kyron’s dissappearence. Here’s the latest on the case; the sheriff’s department has been contacted by remote viewer Ed Dames:
From KPTV:
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office received some unsolicited help from a former military investigator this week in the case of missing 7-year-old Kyron Horman.
Edward Dames, a retired remote viewer who once worked with the Army, worked with his team for three weeks to try to determine the physical location of the missing boy, who has not been since June 4 at Skyline School in northwest Portland.
Dames said the missing boy is located on private property roughly 10 miles south of the school.
“He’s not where police are searching,” he said. “(He’s) not in the water and not that far away.”
Oregon Sighting: Several Spheres Respond to Witness
From UFO Stalker, this interesting report of several UFOs responding to the witness:
Case Number: 24270

Submitted Date: 2010-07-06 11:05 GMT
Event Date: 2010-07-05 00:00 GMT
Status: Submitted
City: N/A
Region: Oregon
Country: US
Longitude: -119.535
Latitude: 45.8323
Shape: Sphere
Description:
I’m afraid to go public or provide more then a general description of events. I have been in contact with a cluster of metalic luminescent spheres that respond to my laser. So far in the last 2 weeks they have returned at least 4 different days. They move in unison with six spheres in total. They approach as close as 500 feet. Some of them will flash brilliant in my direction with a series of flashes. The brighter of the spheres which are of different size seems to direct the other spheres. I’m not sure if I will make more then this written report as I don’t want create a public spectacle and I’m concerned that if I make it public they will not return. I’m going to borrow a camcorder and provide video evidence to this site in the near future. Im absolutely sure they will return again. They stay in my vision until my laser pointer batteries start fading. Last night was the closest they came to my position on the ground. I work for the Feds and don’t want to receive any attention in this matter but I also want to ask your viewing audience what they would do in my situation. If I talk to my friends I wonder if they will tell others. If I mention any more I wonder if the government will get involved. I have heard that a radar detector can pick up tones so I want to try and record the tones. I believe the government already knows and tries to debunk or intimidate. I’m sorry I dont want to mention any more at this time. Im an avid star gazer and had an amazing sighting in 1973 that changed my life. Now that Im in my 50’s I have finally got the confirmation I needed and maybe that’s all that matters. Best wishes and don’t stop looking up.

JREF Bashes JVP
R.S. Lancaster, a popular uber-skeptoid on the JREF, started the “Stop Sylvia Browne” movement some time ago. That was some project on Lancaster’s part; lots of threads and posts about the neccessity of stopping Browne for the good of humanity; he even started a website devoted to his hatred of Browne: StopSylviaBrowne.com
For whatever reason, boredom, greener skeptic pastures, who knows, Lancaster has now put his energies into stopping medium James Van Praagh.
What started this all was the news that JVP was to appear in Grants Pass, Oregon on June 25th. I was startled to find that such a rabid skeptoid lives not far from me! Apparently Lancaster lives around the Salem area and can’t tolerate a woo visiting his state spreading that woo that he do.
Lancaster writes letters and joins the JVP message forum, back and forths ensue, you know, the usual non-productive fanatic skeptic in your face routine. What’s scary about all this isn’t the expected skeptoid response to a medium, or even a few attempts at engaging the woo of the day in “debate,” and so on. No, it’s not that, it’s the incredible depth of the … what do we call this? Obsession, certainly, stalking? Harassing? Investigation? Whatever it all is, it’s very intense. It’s creepy and pathological.
There are several separate threads, or “chapters” devoted to Lancaster’s attacks on JVP. I think this is all of them but there might be others, but in any case, you get the idea:
StopJVP – RSL in JVPLand – All Chapters?
StopJVP – RSL in JVPLand – Chapter 2: Q&A
StopJVP – RSL In JVPLand – Chapter 6: Grant’s Pass?
StopJVP – RSL In JVPLand – Chapter 7b: Pink Panther Answer?
StopJVP: RSL in JVPLand – Chapter 5: The Two Jameses
StopJVP – RSL in JVPLand – Chapter 8: Epilogue
In the last thread (”Chapter 8: Epilogue”) Lancaster comments how, after spending weeks on pro JVP message boards, exchanging emails and posts with JVP, he’s ready to wrap up. Part of this summation includes the StopJamesVanPraagh website:
“I know that when I open StopJamesVanPraagh.com it will upset many of them, and that saddens me – but not enough to keep me from going ahead with it.
In a deliscious moment of irony, of kettle calling pot black, of point! zoom! right over your head!, of sigh, this just sums it all up doesn’t it, Lancaster posts, on the JREF:
One of them [poster on JVP message forum] posted in one of my threads “I can’t help but notice that you show such PRIDE when you use the word “skeptic.”
I guess that I do. It’s an odd concept to them, since, more often than not, the word “skeptic” to them has meant “insufferable know-it-all jerk.” I’d like to think that I showed some of them that “skeptic” can sometimes mean something else, but perhaps, with my “Pink Panther” question, I just confirmed their earlier definition!
