SUMMER FLYING-SAUCER CINEMA SERIES

Begins Memorial Weekend / Saturday Night May 29th

(“Rain Day” Sunday the 30th)

This month we are launching an all new series of events:

SUMMER FLYING SAUCER CINEMA SERIES

This month we are launching an all new series of events. This new monthly event will be a FREE showing of lesser known “Flying Saucer Films” with a focus on those that have important points to be made regarding the nature of paranormal, UFO and other anomalous phenomena, as well as society’s cultural reactions to UFO related phenomena.

UFO related phenomena and the Modern Wave of Flying Saucer sightings in the United States have had a lasting effect upon American Popular Culture. For that reason we feel it fitting to host this new event series at the South Austin Popular Culture Center (frmly the South Austin Museum of Popular Culture).

UFOs on the Attack over Houston?

Remember that near-miss between a missile and an airplane over Houston last year? And the year before that?

My latest post over at ANOMALY Magazine

Will There Be Another Near Miss With a UFO/Missile Over Houston?

John Etgen speaks with KHOU news on report of FAA rocket incident in Houston.

“There will be another such loud report!”
- Carl Gustav Jung to Sigmund Freud

“Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action.”
Auric Goldfinger

The other day a friend was telling me about a new book by local author James Hynes titled NEXT. My friend described part of the book’s premise, that of the main character Kevin Quinn worrying about being shot-out-of-the-sky by a shoulder mounted rocket while coming in for a landing in Austin, Texas:

In the first paragraph of “Next,” he imagines terrorists “kneeling in the bed of a dinged-up pickup truck with Texas plates, or crouching on the springy backseat of a rented convertible on a dirt track just outside the airport fence.” He envisions a Stinger launching “toward the sleek underbelly of Kevin’s plane, a Pringles can with wings, packed full of defenseless Pringles.”

I joked with my friend that, since the character was flying into the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and not the Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, he had nothing to worry about. I then proceeded to explain that there have been two very similar near-miss aviation events, almost exactly one year apart, where the unidentified flying object was described as like a missile or rocket, reported by commercial pilots and corroborated by witnesses on the ground. I suddenly realized we were now within the same time-frame as those two past events.

“It was the same situation, almost identical,” DeFoor said. “The FBI are pulling their records on that one. It was roughly in the same area almost a year ago.”

Both events involved “Continental Airlines,” though the second incident was actually with an ExpressJet plane that “flies regional routes for Continental Airlines as Continental Express.”

In the case of the 2008 event:

Continental Flight 1544 was flying at 5,000 feet about 11 miles east of Bush Intercontinental Airport after takeoff Monday morning when the pilot called the tower to report an object headed toward the plane. The pilot described seeing a fast moving object with a thick smoke trail nearing his airspace.

The 2009 incident also occurred shortly after take-off from Bush Intercontinental Airport, over the southern edge of Liberty County but with the plane at 13,000 feet on its way to Greenville, South Carolina. The 2008 event involved a commercial flight headed to Cleveland, Ohio.

While the first incident was at a relatively low altitude, compared to the second event a year later, the second closer-call was witnessed by two Hardin High School students who were interviewed by the local Sheriff’s department.

Interestingly enough … while I was writing the above article I saw this UFO news headline:

TX, May 4, 2010 – Sphere intercepts Southwest Jet over Downtown Houston. MUFON Case # 23244.

Had just picked up my wife from work at Produce Row.It was her,our son and I cutting thru Downtown Houston to hit the H.O.V. lane to I-45 North when I noticed a sphere cutting across the sky.

At that time,I told my wife and son to look at it and when they spotted it a Southwest Jet came in view.

The sphere picked up speed and was on a collision course with the jet.

As we drove by the Spaghetti Warehouse to take a right, our view was blocked. When we made our turn and got a look at the area where the jet and sphere were, the jet was gone!

I don’t know what happened to the jet,but in that span of about 3 seconds it was gone. But the sphere was just sitting there spinning. After we got on the H.O.V. lane we went under I-10 and as we come to the other side of I-10 it was gone.Just wondering if anyone else had seen it.

Rectangular UFO 500 feet over Mesquite, Texas

Artist's depiction of a black rectangular UFO sighting.

"Artist's depiction of a black rectangular UFO sighting."

[Picture above is from The Black Rectangles of 2007]

Another Texas UFO sighting from earlier this year…

TX, February 16, 2010 – Rectagular black craft moving very slow apx 500 feet with 4 dim red lights. NO FAA lights. 1 dimensional?.. like a flat black sheet of paper with lights on each conner. MUFON Case # 22329.

On fab 16th 2010 apx around 10:10 – 10:15 PM I was coming back from the store and was walking between the house and next door. It was just flooting across the sky right over my next door neighbors house at apx 15 to 20 mph.

It was solid black. So black it was like a void in the sky. At apx 500 feet more or less it seemed to move in a stright line no sound at all. I would never have known this thing was above me if I didn’t look up. It had 4 dim red lights on each conner on the craft. Solid, not blinking. It was moving wast to east.

No FAA lights.

I don’t think I remeber ever seeing a brick flooting in the sky before.

It only had one dimension! Not 2 or 3 dimensions just one.. like a flat sheet of black paper it was so flat that it was out of my sight in 30 seconds..

I guess cause it was flat and one dimensional. The very dim lights could have been plasma vents to keep it up in the air.. I dunno.. just a guess.

It was a drop jaw moment for me. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

I always wanted to see a real UFO for myself all my life. Actually after seeing this thing and thinking about it it gives me the willies.

I reported this to the Mesquite, Texas police dept. Nobody else reported this thing and I could tell the cop that called me back was laughing at me for reporting it.. I ask him if anyone else reported this and he said no I was the only one. I reported it like 3 or 4 days later. Didn’t think the police would do much about it anyways but thought it might help just to document the sighting. This was my “First” UFO sighting. I wish I had a camera handy but the one I do have is only a 4 mega pix camera and seeing the UFO was so dimly lit I don’t think it would have been a very good picture or video.

Student sees UFO-sphere land in Roma, Texas

Kind of interesting … I wish he’d had or used a cellphone camera to take a picture.

TX,  April 8, 2010 – moving sphere object with a bright-white light. MUFON Case # 22768.

sphereI was coming back home from college in my car, on the 83 highway, late at night. My mother called to see when I was going to arrive home and I answered her call from my cellphone.

I was on the passanger seat at this time, while a friend drove me home. My mother was upset I was coming home late, so I ignored what she was saying to me and instead looked out the windshield at a slight angle towards the driver’s side.

In the sky, across from Alvarez Rd (in between Rio Grande,TX and Roma, TX)I saw a bright white light, a perfect sphere.

My first reaction was: “Oh my God!! What’s that!?..Oh my God..it’s moving!!..it’s f*king moving!”

While the driver still drove at 55mph-60mph, I kept track of the object for about 3seconds. The object was NOT far up in the sky, but instead it seemed to be pretty low to the ground. I saw it moving down towards the ground as if it were going to land.

It moved downward in the shape of an arc, a movement I believe no airplane or helicopter do when they plan to land. Anyhow, I do not know if the object landed because I lost site of it once it got too low to the ground because of trees covering the site. I noticed there was a house near where the object was, but there may be more than just one.

The driver did not see what I saw, but I wanted to ask people around the area where I saw this object if they had seened something similar to my story but I was too scared of doing that for fear of being called crazy.

What made me first notice the object was its perfect sphere-shaped bright-white glow. When I first saw it, I didn’t think anything of it; until I saw it was actually moving downward as if to land, I thought it could be perhaps a UFO because of the way it moved downward, forming an arc path.

During the siting I felt in disbelieve; It was very unexpected because I was not looking at the sky to find strange things, but yet there it had been very tangible. While still on the phone with my mother, I told her what I had seen: the bright white light shaped as a sphere.

After the sighting when I got home, I asked myself what it could have been and started iliminating possibilities and I could not find an explanation for it. So I arrived at one conclusion: an Unidentified Flying Object..apparantly about to land.

Stephenville one of the “Best places to spot UFOs”

MSNBC recently did a piece on the “Best places to spot UFOs” and perhaps not surprisingly they included Stephenville, Texas. As I previously mentioned, it does seem that there have been a series of Sightings-Flaps there recently.

It was just another winter night in Stephenville, Texas, when Steve Allen, a 30-year aviation veteran, saw something that defied all logic—an eerily silent, mile-wide craft ringed in lights that would “rearrange themselves” racing across the sky at what he estimated to be 3,000 miles per hour.

“I don’t know if it was a biblical experience or somebody from a different universe, but it was definitely not from around these parts,” Allen told a reporter from the Empire-Tribune after the sighting on Jan. 8, 2008. Similar reports poured in from across Erath County.

The Stephenville Lights incident wasn’t a onetime event—another mass sighting followed in October 2008, and individual reports from the area still trickle in. This corner of Texas along with the eastern Nevada desert are fast emerging as the U.S.’s newest UFO “hot spots”—places with the best odds of a spotting. Similarly active places exist around the globe, with some even attracting a new kind of tourist.

Alien Abduction Outreach Vehicle Spotted in Plano, Texas

 PLANO-TX-UFO-Abduction-Outreach

Photo: Susan Plonka

Traveling eastbound on Parker Road, I spotted him at the light at Central Expressway. Half awake, I glanced over to the beat-up blue Chevy in front of me.

A Saturn with stars was painted on the door, along with a blue horse head on top of the rusty, multi-colored blue paint. The words, “UFO Abduction Outreach,” were stenciled on the door in white.

Murmurs of Murmurations … witness reports ‘bird formation’ disappearing in clear sky

YouTube Preview Image

v-formationWhen I read this report at Roger Marsh’s UFO Examiner blog I had just seen the above video of a “murmuration of starlings” moving as one organism, swooping and undulating to avoid the dive-bomb attacks of a Peregrine Falcon. What amazed me about the video, besides the always astounding “school of fish” effect of their unified movements, was how so many birds could seem to briefly vanish as their bodies all turn a certain direction, limiting their silhouette to a bare minimum visibility.

Of course that is not exactly what this witness relates here, as the “birds” appear to fly in a V-formation and not as an amorphous amoeba like those in the video.

So what did the witness actually see?

TX, March 29, 2009 – sting ray like looking birds in an arrow formation/disappear, reappear, and dissappear again. MUFON Case # 22152.

I had just flown in from Dallas to Harlingen, landed after 12 noon. I drove back with a friend and her husband to Mcallen, my home town. Before Mcallen, we drove through Pharr Texas. I was in the back seat, and I happened to look up.

I noticed, and not too high from the sky, a formation of birds, in an arrow shape, the way your normal birds migrate, but these were not the normal looking birds. They were in a perfect arrow shape, and about 8-10 of them on either side.

They were flying in synch, the exact same time and way, these birds looked like sting ray looking animals, very strange looking birds, with a wide wing span, and bodies like a sting ray.

As I was watching, they disappeared, then they reappeared within seconds, and they were still in synch as they were flying flapping their wings all at the same time. I did mention what I saw to the 2 people I was driving with, I was a little embarrassed to mention it again.

With in seconds they disappeared again, and not into clouds, because they were way below the clouds. I’ve told my close friends and am embarrassed to mention it to anyone because don’t want anyone to think I am crazy.

TexMex UFOs

laredo

Lon Strickler of Phantoms and Monsters wrote an interesting article last month on the Laredo UFO Crash and its infamous grissly ”Tomato Man” photograph. He reprints much of the letter that originally accompanied the photos.

According to wikipedia:

The photos, along with a brief note about them, were received in the mail by Willard F. McIntyre, founder of a civilian UFO group called the Mutual Anomaly Research Center and Evaluation Network (MARCEN). The photos showed the badly burned body of a small biped with a large head and clawlike hands. The photos were purportedly sent by a retired U.S. Navy photographer from Tennessee who claimed to have taken them at a UFO crash site along the Texas-Mexico border in 1948.

Apparently, Texas Monthly magazine reporter Pamela Colloff  included this incident in a list of historic Texas UFO events titled Close Encounters of the Lone Star Kind.

Paranormal Response TV and UFO Flap Over Dublin and Stephenville?

While on the Paranormal Response live TV show Tuesday, March 2nd, we got a call from a young lady in Stephenville who was reporting on her recent multi-witness UFO sightings as well as other recent area sightings at a football game. I think the caller can be heard in about the 3rd segment of this six part video.

YouTube Preview Image

Here are some links to coverage of the mini-flap:

I saw four orange lights forming the corners of an inverted trapezoid. The lights were of medium intensity, very similar to seeing an old streetlight in the distance. These lights did not seem connected, and as my eyes adjusted, I thought I saw stars between them, though I can’t be sure because of the lighting around me at ground level.

When I first noticed them, I knew immediately that these were the lights that had been seen before from this same location around Thanksgiving. My wife and son along with several others had noticed the lights in the same position (west) in the sky during an outdoor fellowship meal.

The lights did not change position or intensity. Since I registered them as streetlamp-like lights, my mind guessed an altitude of 500 – 1,000 feet. The interesting thing about my vantage point is that there is a very narrow distance between the top of the outbuilding’s roof and the steel-framed roof, limiting the combinations of altitudes and distances that these objects might have. If my altitude guess is correct, this would place the lights directly over the town of Dublin.

UFO over Van Alstyne, Texas?

Van-Alstyne-Texas-UFO-closeupBack in February Dirk Vander Ploeg over at UFO Digest reported on a possible UFO photographed soaring above Van Alstyne, Texas. The photographer, nicknamed ”Cool Rivers”, did not see the object until looking over his photographs.
