Did you know that perhaps the most popular song of all time, “Yesterday,” came to Paul McCartney in a dream? Dreams often function as mediators between the unconscious — where unfathomable mysteries seem to cook and coagulate — and consciousness. If we pay attention to the messages in dreams, we may give birth to unexpected and exciting ideas. Dreams can bring valuable insights as well. Sometimes, dreams seem to access the future, as in Abraham Lincoln’s dream of his death just before he was assassinated. We shall discuss both actual and legendary dreams that have given rise to significant changes, both personal and social. We shall also discuss verified dreams that have been precognitive or prophetic.
How about you? Have you had any creative or precognitive dreams that you would like to discuss? Meredith Mitchell, PhD received his doctorate in 1967 and trained at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles, receiving certification as a Jungian analyst in 1974. He served as president of the L.A. Jung Institute, conducted private dream workshops in his home for 30 years, and taught myths and fairy tales at UCLA in addition to maintaining a full private practice.
